Helen Dunnett is a freelance consultant based in the North West of England, trading as HD Consulting. Helen works with arts clients in the UK to provide help with strategic, audience and organisational development, coming from a long background of experience in marketing and communications in senior management roles for a wide range of arts organisations.
Helen has worked in the arts sector for over 15 years for arts organisations including: Scottish Chamber Orchestra; the Hallé Orchestra; Buxton Opera House; Royal Liverpool Philharmonic & Philharmonic Hall; Royal Northern College of Music; and Sheffield Theatres as Director of External Relations & Communications. Most recently she has worked with All About Audiences on their organisational change from Arts About Manchester to a regional agency, through bringing together organisations from Greater Manchester into a collaborative project – the www.goseethis.com What’s On Web Portal; and with the Bluecoat in Liverpool on a 12 month project as Director of Marketing & Communications; and on an Impact Assessment Research project alongside DHA Communications. Helen is currently working on an audience development project with Lancaster University: “Live at LICA”.
Central to her career has been the emphasis Helen has placed on Audience Development, pioneering many ground-breaking audience development initiatives which have subsequently been adopted by organisations, both nationally and internationally. These include: the first Test Drive scheme at the Hallé in 1996/7 with Arts About Manchester; at Buxton Opera House a hugely successful telemarketing scheme, TelePrompt, aimed at retaining audiences; and, at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, a cutting edge CRM strategy called Audience Builder (working with Andrew McIntyre). Helen has also been a Panel Advisor for Audiences Yorkshire’s Stage Exchange programme funded by Arts Council Yorkshire (2004-6), a Board Member of Arts About Manchester (2006-2009) and a Board Member of the Arts Marketing Association (2001 – 2009).
Much of her work has been focussed on using audience behavioural data from ticketing systems to develop more effective direct marketing approaches.
Helen is particularly interested in helping organizations with customer relationship management (CRM) as well as brand and organizational development.
